When you are seeing your birth chart (aka natal chart) for the first time, we recommend that you seek to learn about and understand the following pieces of information:
- the birth star / star where the Moon is placed
- the Zodiac sign which identifies the first house in your chart and what planets are placed there
- the Zodiac sign which identifies the tenth house in your chart and what planets are placed there
- any planets which are particularly well placed or poorly placed / the good and bad planets in your chart
- your major planetary period (dasa), minor planetary period (bhukti) and the themes or lessons that you will encounter during this time
Understanding these elements will help you to understand key areas of influence in your life. It also helps to identify any planets for which you might want to perform remedies. The remedies are key to maximizing the good times and minimizing the bad ones.
